A Spoonful Of Sugar

Medicine is something that we all need to take. Medicine does not always have to be a tablet or that syrup we would have by the bottle as a child only because it tasted of bubblegum or bananas – sometimes medicine can be a hug from your mum after a bad day, it can be him or her because they send your heart rate skywards,it can be happy hour with your friends and having one too many pornstar martinis even though you have work in the morning.

Sometimes we all need to get a bit better at taking our medicine, sometimes it can be bitter, too sweet or so sour our face wrinkles up like that old couple down the road. We need to get better at accepting little bits of love and happy things that are presented to us throughout everyday life. A quote from one of my favourite books, Perks Of Being A Wallflower, is that we accept the love we think we deserve. Sometimes love is a medicine but it is also a paralytic.

My friends and family are my medicine, a lot of books which are nestled away safely on my bookshelf also provide some medical support should the time present itself. I find solace on horseback, within the barns and fields surrounding the farms I grew up in and in the arms of a few particular people. Finding your pharmaceutical outlet can prove difficult – him or her might leave or those martinis might go straight to your head but you must continue even if the syrup is too thick or that tablet won’t go down no matter how much water you drink.

Medicine is something that we all have to take, but holding the hand of someone you love can make moments in life a little sweeter. Sometimes a spoonful of sugar does help the medicine go down.
