Sunsets And Christmas Lights

People are sunsets. Every single one of us is a separate cloud in the vast formation of fluff that stretches above us every night. The blank canvas. Every night is an opportunity for another painting. You might sometimes feel like the lacklustre horizon below the brighter colours, but know that as the sun rises, you will turn your own shade of gold and that colour will be oh so bright compared to the black that was before.

Consider this; every cloud that wandering eyes witness is entirely and wonderfully unique. Every single cloud moves independently throughout the sky – going wherever it wants to, morphing into the shape of whatever it likes with a gentle push of the wind. No sky is quite the same. One night, the canvas above you may be blue, pink or yellow, the burning red of that lipstick your mother loves or the blue colour of that boy’s eyes you liked a little too much from high school. Every sky will never be like the one that was displayed across the heavens the night before.

That, in itself, relates to how wonderfully fantastic and unique YOU are.

Remember that everyone is different. In the words of the old wrinkly tortoise on Kung Fu Panda – you have planted a peach tree (you are the peach tree). You can wish for an apple or an orange but it will always be a peach tree. Where I’m going with this is you may wish to be like her. You may wish to be like him. But she or he is so beautiful in their own way. Christmas lights are beautiful and so are sunsets, but no one says that the other one is not so. They are just different, yet beautiful in their own separate ways. This unlikeness between the two entities is what makes them so special.

I ask you the next time you compare yourself to that person on Instagram or that ex that plagues your mind – acknowledge that you are that beautiful sunset with the splashes of purple and blue, but also be aware that it is Christmas soon and those twinkly light will not dull you in the slightest no matter how much you think they might.
